Advanced Technical Panels (ATP) customer, Wilson Brothers, recently completed an impressive installation for Nike’s East London 1948 space. The new floor covering is Nike Grind – a completely recycled rubber sport surface – which is created using a minimum of 10 percent recycled trainers. Approximately 15,000 pairs of sports shoes were used in the material which adds bounce and warmth, is highly sustainable, and is the same as that used around the main pitch at Manchester United Football Club. 1948 is the weekly meeting place for a local urban running club – RUN-DEM-CREW, and the ‘Running Man’ floor graphic incorporates three maps used by the club. The red (5K run), yellow (8k run) and green (10k run) represent local tube lines in the area that are passed on the respective runs, with a visual reference to club founder Charlie Dark’s weekly reggae running podcasts. The line width is the same as traditional sports pitch markings and the ‘X’ marks the location of 1948 on the map.
To symbolise tiered stadium seating, a set of 12 modular units form the basis of the display system for the store’s new look interior. The steel and laminated plywood units are fitted with wheels for easy mobility and can be swiftly repositioned into unlimited configurations. The units are equally useable as three table-top merchandise displays or as auditorium seating for events. When placed back-to-back they resemble the classic ‘winner podium’ shape. A further local reference is found in the detachable and multi positional hanging rails – which reflect the sea of goal posts at the nearby Hackney Marshes.
Part of the James Latham Group, ATP is the UK’s leading custom-built panel distributor supplying a comprehensive range of pre-finished and overlaid panels.
The striking project was completed using 12mm Kokifutura board (PPL 02 Blue Spots on Grey) and Birch plywood from ATP.
